Title : Green technology and carbon sequestration study of semi-arid grazing lands at Sivagangai,TamilNadu

Abstract:

Grazing lands play a major role for the fodder need of grazing animals. In India the available grazing lands do not fulfil the fodder demand. Most of the existing grazing lands are in the degrading stage due to over use of these lands. It very much affects its ecosystem and stability of the existing land. Present study mainly focused on sustainability of these grazing lands through controlled grazing and proper green technology to enhance the productivity and stability of these grazing lands by its carbon fixation efficiency. Five sample sites were selected to study the grazing effect, productivity, carbon fixation and sustainability of grazing lands. The study was carried out in semi-arid grazing lands at Sivagangai for a period of three years.Three sites were selected for grazing, over-grazing and un-grazing and two sites were selected to study the application of green technology to enhance carbon production and sustainability of these semi-arid grazing lands.our study carried out at site one, two and three showed over grazing very much affected carbon fixation and stability of grazing land. Compared to un-grazed areas in moderate grazing land showed more productivity by enhancing more carbon fixation. Application of green technology in the form of bio-mix enhanced productivity, stability of grazing land by fixing more carbon in plants. This green technology is used to protect the grazing lands from degradation and make sustainability of grazing lands to maintain the fodder demand of this area and to maintain a healthy grazing land ecosystem.
