Title : The Indian Crop Phenome Database (ICPD): A global FAIR repository for standardized crop phenome data
Abstract:
The Indian Crop Phenome Database (ICPD), developed at the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC), is a global FAIR repository for the collection, curation, and dissemination of phenotypic and associated datasets across all crop species. Designed to manage large-scale data from field trials, breeding programs, and research initiatives, ICPD supports diverse data types including phenotypic, environmental, soil, weather, QTL, and GWAS data, ensuring they are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-usable (FAIR). The repository adheres to international ontology standards for traits, tissues, developmental stages, and experimental methodologies, allowing seamless data sharing and reuse. Each dataset is assigned a unique IBDC accession number, ensuring global traceability and citation. ICPD is interoperable with international systems through its integration with the Genesys global passport data, enabling users to connect phenotypic datasets with corresponding germplasm accessions worldwide. ICPD also features advanced search, visualization, and analytical tools that facilitate trait-based exploration, comparative analytics, and phenotype–genotype correlation studies. To further strengthen mission-driven research, ICPD hosts dedicated tracks for Mission-Mode Projects, providing curated access to nationally significant datasets. By enabling standardized, cross-species, and globally connected data sharing, the ICPD serves as a comprehensive platform for all crop phenomes, empowering breeders, geneticists, and researchers to accelerate innovation in crop improvement and contribute to global food and nutritional security.
