Plant Cell Biology and Molecular Biotechnology

The study of all elements of plant cells is known as plant cell biology. It particularly emphasizes plant cell structure, growth, division, signalling, differentiation, and death.

Plants can be modified using advanced molecular biotechnology techniques to discover their unique properties. Plants can be genetically modified to create 'designer plants' (i.e. GMOs) that are better suited to specific demands, such as disease resistance and long-shelf-life tomatoes. High potential of plant cells for improving crop production can be exploited by identifying new useful genetic traits.
