Dicot

Dicots are a type of flowering plant with two embryonic leaves, or cotyledons, in their seed. They are one of two major groups of angiosperms, the other being monocots. Dicots are characterized by having a variety of different leaf shapes and sizes, woody stems, and veins that run parallel along the leaves. They also typically have a taproot system, in which a single large root grows downward and then branches out into smaller lateral roots. Dicots are one of the most diverse plant groups and are found in virtually all habitats. They are the dominant group in most terrestrial ecosystems, making up the majority of plants in temperate, tropical, and boreal regions. Dicots also play an important role in agriculture, as many of the food crops we eat are from the dicot plant family. Examples include tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, beans, and squash. Dicots have a wide range of flower types, including single flowers, composite flowers, and umbels. They are also known for their brightly coloured petals, which are often used in garden beds. Overall, dicots are a widespread and important group of plants.
